Health and Safety training courses

Job specific training for all council employees will be identified by their managers/supervisors through the Risk Assessment and Appraisal process based on the service areas requirements or on receipt of the employee receiving onsite induction training. A health and safety training matrix is also available that gives guidance on what are considered essential health and safety training courses for job roles.

The courses which fall under the health and safety theme are:

  • Asbestos Awareness

The training matrix is an Excel spreadsheet that can give guidance to what are considered essential health and safety training courses.

Priority is given to courses assigned as 'mandatory', then 'highly recommended' and so on. They relate to a person's:

Job role

  • · Extra responsibilities
  • · Specific or specialised work activities

The matrix can be used in personal development reviews to ensure that managers know which courses are useful in employee development and competence to carry out their job role, achieving a recognised level of 'competence'.
